Here are the mugs that they have at the nursing home:
so why is it whenever I ask for these mugs I'm given the impression they are made of gold? I always get looked at like I'm going to steal them. I tell them I need 2, one for my mom's liquid diet and one for water and damned if I don't get a hard time each and every bloody time unless Michael or someone goes and gets them for me.
But.... before the first day is out she has these instead:
you know these... cafeteria type, come in red or clear.. tiny 6 oz things that are hard for anyone to hold let alone someone with major dexterity problems.
This is what I have bought her for home use:
Gotta love this mug. It has dignity with it. Lets them hold the cup themselves. Has a raised side and a lower side. You drink from the longer side so the lower side doesn't bump your nose. It even has a sippy cup lid that comes with it if you want to use it. But it doesn't look like a baby mug. And.. best thing yet, it has measurements on the side to measure liquids.
So please explain to me why the hell the nursing home doesn't have these? Don't they have people with dexterity issues? No one with bad arthritis? btw, that pic of my mom's hands is many years old, they are worse now.
It may sound silly to some, I'm sure to the nursing homes... but every little bit of independence these people can have is a HUGE deal since so much as been taken away from them with age.
These mugs cost me $17 each but that's because I bought them retail from a store that deals with the disabled. I'm sure they can get them much cheaper if they wanted to. Much.
I'd love to take her own mugs with me but they would never be cleaned, just refilled or go missing.
